Cars Online “Snap it’s a patch”
Over at Cars Online Forums I saw there was an update to Cars Online.
Captain Cal here and I again bring you the latest patch notes for the ever-awesome World of Cars Online. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Cal, how is it that you can maintain such awesomeness and not explode from so much awesomeness?”
I have to tell you, it’s not easy.
I spent a lot of time practicing before I took this job, and even then I had to take some time to really learn how to control such epic awesome. None the less, I persevere for you guys. I really do and I think it’s been worth it. I see you guys out there on the tracks, training and kicking tailpipe and I think to myself, “Daa-GUM, I’m gonna have to step up the awesome.”
It’s true. Anyway, how about the latest patch notes? Before you get crackin’ on these things, let me just point out the first point in the notes. A lot of you have sent us feedback regarding the artwork on the collectable Badges in the game. We are aware of this issue and we’re updating them as we get new artwork. So don’t sweat it too much, all the badges will eventually be converted over.
So, on with the notes!
Patch Notes (01.15.09):
- Badges: Okay, so most people don’t read patch notes, but this one’s kind of important. We know there are placeholder and non-matching images for a number of badges. We are slowly replacing these as we get new artwork. This patch includes an update for a number of badges. We are aware of this, and we are updating, I promise!
- Fixed an issue with Race Numbers, you may notice your number reset to “00″. If this is the case, you probably had a number that wasn’t supposed to be allowed. Ooooh, busted!
- Fixed an issue with the Training Track in that you couldn’t get to the track from the RSN.
- Updated the Help Section with updated verbiage. Super exciting, no doubt.
- Fixed an issue where a user couldn’t edit their Race Codes once they entered them, which meant if you messed up, you couldn’t fix it without closing and reopening the Race Code Redemption window. Entering Race Codes should now be 100% less lame.Fixed an issue with the RSN displaying long racer names too close to the track time and overlapping one another. Now if your name is “Superfastracingtypecarthingthatdrivesreallyfastontheroad” you should be able to see your time. I really hope that’s not your name.
- Fixed an audio issue where upon exiting a race before you’ve finished (*cough*hax*cough*) the music for that particular track kept playing. This should be completely fixed now. Seriously, we got it this time.
- Fixed a issue with the “Congratulations” pop-up after creating a new car. It should now correctly display your name instead of, “Congratulations, Null”. Unless your name is ‘Null’, everything is all good now.
- Fixed the description of “Chick Hicks Green” to remove the word, ‘apropos’. In theory, the new description is much funnier and easier to understand. You may be amused now.
- Removed the old color, “Living Lavender Loca” and replaced it with a new silver color called, “Gray Vee”. Apparently Silver is the new Lavender.
- Other magically behind-the-scenes changes have also been incorporated in this build. These range from performance to visual updates.
So there you go, another update, another week of awesome racing.
Keep in mind that we do read ALL of your feedback and comments, so if you’re happy with something, or you want to tell me how incredibly awesome and handsome I am, feel free. Heck, you can even send suggestions on what you’d like to see in the upcoming launch of the game and we’ll make sure it gets to the right ears.
Well, until next time, kick some pipe!

Cars Online Patch Details Dec 08
Cars Online has had a patch and there are some pretty cool things, but nothing too interesting. At least they are doing some things. But I can’t wait till they release the world to us
Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings, and Happy New Year!
Wow, who doesn’t love the holidays? I know we sure do! None the less, there is no amount of snow, holiday cheer, or delicious egg nog that can keep us from what we do best, and that’s making this project better for you. Now don’t think we don’t love egg nog (because I certainly do), we just love Cars more!
So as you can imagine, we’ve got all sorts of good things going on around here. If you’ve logged on today, then I’m sure you’ve already seen some of the changes we’ve made. That said, how about I stop talking and start posting those patch notes?
Good idea, here they are:
Patch Notes (12.18.08):
- Race Code Update: We’ve updated ALL the Race Codes that will be released to the public. This means that you should now be able to redeem ALL of your codes for a special collectible badge, some car coins and some special consumables for racing.
- NOTE: If you redeem a code and get a PLACEHOLDER image, don’t panic, that badge hasn’t been “officially” released, you’re one of the lucky few who got a Car early. When that particular Car is “officially” released, we’ll update the artwork!
- Race Codes: What’s This Pop-Up: Added a graphic showing the back of the ticket
- Enter Race Codes Pop-Up: Added Congratulations screen after entering a code from the landing page, made the Race Code input 4 fields of 4-digit boxes (like entering credit card info), and replaced the fanfold of race tickets with graphic of back of the ticket
- Verbiage: Several copy changes throughout the site. We do it because we love to proofread. We also do it because we sometimes don’t get enough coffee in the morning
- Garage: Replaced green and blue shades with different shades of blue and green; renamed “Yellow Shade” to “Not-So-Mellow Yellow”, very original
- Garage: Also add the following new functionality: camera angle change when you are customizing your car–that way you are not relying on the buttons that spin your car, you will see the correct view based on what you are adding to your car
- Garage: Removed the locked tire and paint job in the Workbench
- GUI: Made GUI visible on 1024 x 768 monitor. Added “Game Trailer” to GUI. Changed “Racetracks” to “Race”. We reworked those visual styles to be much more race-worthy
- Send Us Your Comments: Added an updated “Send Us Your Comments” form accessible from the Envelope icon on the upper right side of the GUI. Now you can send us your comments AND questions, as well as let us know your name and e-mail address. Talk about exciting! We’re out of control over here!
- Leaderboard: Click the RSN icon in the upper-right corner of the Garage–it’s totally tricked out! Send us your feedback using the previously mentioned “Send Us Your Comments” form
- Help: Updated some of the copy to make the Help even more helpful; replaced “Contact Us” hyperlink with our hyperlinked e-mail address (memberservices@worldofcars.com) for those of you who don’t have an e-mail application installed on your computer
- Landing Page: New loading animation featuring everyone’s favorite little “Pit Stop!” hero, Guido! Honestly, this is the best part of this week’s update
- Landing Page: We also updated the “About Game” copy. It was REALLY long before, and now our awesome Marketing mechanics have completely re-tooled it, added a cool fin, some rims, and pretty much gave it more horsepower
- Game Trailer: Added to GUI, made the trailer MUCH larger, which rocks, of course
- Racing: Added track difficulty selection to each of the tracks. Now you can play at your level of skill. We’ve also got leaderboard rankings for each level of difficulty. If you’re just getting started you might want to check out our…
- …Training Track: Yup, we’ve added a special Training Track for all our new and young players alike. Test your keyboard skills on the giant oval of pavement
- Create My Car Button: The “Race” button has been changed to “Save” in the Create My Car process since you have to save your Car before you race it! Go figure
- Congratulations Pop-Up: Updated the Congrats Pop-Up after creating a new Car for the first time, it’s awesomesauce
- Last But Not Least: All sorts of mysterious behind-the-scenes magic! Because that’s what we do best here at Disney
